618. Book Review published in Education About Aisa

This great review was written by Dr. PETER K. FROST is the Frederick L. Schuman of International Studies Emeritus at Williams College and Visiting Professor of International Studies (ret.) at the University of Mississippi. He is also an Associate Editor of Education About Asia. This is one of the great book reviews found in academic journals. The main reason is that Professor Frost is very familiar with the topic. He is familar with both history of China and that of the United States covered by the book China and the Founding of the United States: The Influence of Traditional Chinese Civilization on the United States. 617 CALA (Chinese American Librarian Association and China and the Founding of the United States

Next year will be 50th anniversary of CALA. Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) started March 31, 1973 by Dr. Tze-Chung Li and Dorothy Li, as Mid-West Chinese American Librarians Association, a regional organization in Illinois. A year later, Chinese Librarians Association was formed in California in 1974. In 1976, Mid-West Chinese American Librarians Association was expanded to a national organization as Chinese American Librarians Association. By 1979, CALA had five chapters in Northeast, Mid-West, Atlantic, Southwest and California respectively. Chinese American Librarians Association and Chinese Librarians Association were merged in 1983. The merged organization retains CALA's English name and Chinese Librarians Association's Chinese name 華人圖書館員協會. CALA is a registered nonprofit organization with 501(c)3 tax exempt status. Currently, CALA has eight chapters as follows: Greater Mid-Atlantic (GMA), Midwest Chapter (MW), Northeast Chapter (NE), Northern California Chapter (NCA), Southern California Chapter (SCA), Southeast Chapter (SE), Southwest Chapter (SW) and Canada Chapter. In its newsletter, fall 2021 a brief introduction to Dr. Dave Wang's book was published. 615. Dr. Dave Wang Cited in Christianity and Confucianism, Faith and Politics

Christopher Hancock, Director of Oxford House (Research Ltd) and a Visiting Professor at St. Mary's University, London, published his new book recently. He has also taught at Cambridge University, served as Dean of Bradford Cathedral, and Director of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in China at King's College, London. His current academic work focuses on the role culture, ethics and religion play in contemporary geopolitics. His new book, Christianity and Confucianism: Culture, Faith and Politics. In his book Hancock cite Dr. Dave Wang' serveral papers published in Virginian Review of Asian Studies and some other venues. In his book the author examined "cultural, political, and religious interaction between China and the West". As the world faces a rising China this book provided us with a perspective to view cultural interaction between the Easd and the West. "East and West are shown to have shaped the mind, heart, culture, philosophy and politics of the other - and far more, perhaps, than either knows or would want to admit." 608. Chinese Porcelain Wares in Colonial North America

So far, among scholars, that the general knowlede about the popularity of Chinese porcelain ware in North American colonies was that only those wealth colonists could use the wares. However, the recent archaeological discovery shows that certain slaves owned Chinese porcelain wares. It might be a special case, for the special relations between the slaves and her master. It might be too early to make the conclusion that Chinese porcelain wares were widely used by slaves. But the findings allow us to say that Chinese porcelain wares were not strange to certain slaves. Thanks to the archaeological work, we have furhter understandings on the popularity of Chinese porcelain in the colonial north America.

I still remebmer that many years ago I was invited to deliver a lecture in Rome. I talked about Benjamin Franklinb and Confucian moral philosophy. I was surpried at seeing so many professors, graduate and undergradate and students came to listen to my lecture. Roman civilzation is one of the sources of the modern Western civilization. Italian may rarely think that Eastern civilization has had any influence on the formation of the west civilization. They wanted to find out what I would make my case of the impact of Confucian ideas on the making of modern West civilization.
